Description
El Tunco is an everyday performance shortboard designed for the conditions surfers encounter most often. Fast, responsive, and easy to generate speed on, it blends performance shortboard sensitivity with the extra paddle power and planing ability needed when the waves are not quite firing.
A slightly more compact rail line and curvier outline make the board feel lively and responsive through turns, particularly through the tail. Reduced entry and exit rocker help it paddle efficiently, get up to speed quickly, and maintain momentum through softer sections without sacrificing control when the wave starts to push.
Bottom Contours:
Single concave beneath the front foot transitions into a generous double concave through the fins. The single provides fast acceleration and drive, while the double loosens the board through turns, improves rail-to-rail response, and adds lift in weaker surf.
Performance:
Quick, lively, and highly adaptable. El Tunco generates speed easily, carries momentum through average sections, and still offers the sensitivity and control needed for aggressive turns, vertical surfing, and fast direction changes.
Wave Range:
Designed for everyday surf—from softer waist-high waves through clean overhead conditions. It performs especially well when there is enough shape to surf aggressively but not quite enough power to justify a dedicated high-performance shortboard.
How to Size It:
Ride El Tunco close to your normal shortboard dimensions, or slightly shorter with a little extra width and volume if you want more paddle power and everyday versatility. Advanced surfers can keep the volume performance-oriented, while intermediate surfers can add a little foam for easier paddling and speed generation.
